What do rotary phones, television antennas, cassette tapes and drive-in movies have in common? They can bring back memories we haven’t thought about in years. This week’s Friday Brain Game is an interactive oldies nostalgia quiz. You’ll receive a clue about a familiar object, place or experience. See if you can solve each mystery before revealing the answer.
Remembering the Oldies Nostalgia Quiz
The word “oldies” brings back more than music. It reminds us of rotary phones, television antennas that had to be adjusted just right and black-and-white TVs with only a few channels.
We listened to music on vinyl record albums before moving on to 8-track and cassette tapes. We watched Dick Clark introduce the latest music and dances on American Bandstand. Later, music took on a whole new life when MTV arrived.

It was a time of change from antennas to cable, vinyl records to cassette tapes and a mostly analog world gradually moving toward the digital age. Technology wasn’t always instant. If you missed a television show, you might not see it again until summer reruns. If your favorite song came on the radio, you had to be ready to record it. When the telephone rang, you answered it without knowing who was calling.
Somehow, we survived!
Why Certain Memories Stay With Us
A familiar object can bring back much more than the object itself. A record album may remind you of your first concert. A rotary phone might bring back memories of talking with a friend while stretching the cord as far as it would reach.
A television antenna may remind you of someone standing beside the TV while another person called out, “Stop! Right there!” Those little details became part of our lives. Seeing them again can bring back the people, places and moments connected to them.

When you finish, share your score in the comments, but don’t give away the answers!
One More Mystery Worth Solving
Some answers become clearer as the clues begin to add up. Medicare choices can feel that way too. The details about doctors, prescriptions, costs and coverage all matter and guessing isn’t a great strategy.
